Services Monday for William Crosland

A veteran principal of Knox County Schools has died.

William T. “Bill” Crosland, 71, passed away February 14 at his home in Powell.

Mr. Crosland was principal at Brickey (now Brickey-McCloud), Copper Ridge and Ridgedale elementary schools. He was an educator who genuinely loved kids and is remembered for his chess clubs and innovative engagement of non-traditional youngsters.

He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church where he was involved with the Soup Kitchen, Men of God and Stephen Ministry. He was also a member of Knox County Retired Teachers Association.

After his retirement he was involved in volunteer work with SCAN and Volunteer Assisted Transportation programs, as well as Friends of the Library. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Martha Crosland, and son, William T. “Bill” Crosland Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jennifer Crosland; daughter Michelle Mac Lain and husband Michael; grandsons: Eric Mac Lain and wife Kaki, Sean Mac Lain and wife Kaitlyn, Cade Crosland and Cole Crosland; and daughter-in-law Tracy Crosland.

The funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 19, at Church Street United Methodist, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Chuck Starks and the Rev. Nicole Krewson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Friends and family will meet at 3:15 p.m. for a 3:30 pm graveside at Bells Campground Cemetery. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary.
