Services Dec. 3 for former teacher

South Knoxville from top to toe, Flo Lee DeLozier Barnes never strayed far from home. She died November 20, 2022, at age 98. Mrs. Barnes was a longtime member of Meridian Baptist Church. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee, and she retired from teaching at South Knoxville Elementary School after 33 years.

“Flo Lee particularly enjoyed her Sunday school class and all of her friends at Meridian Baptist Church over the last 70 years. Until April of this year, she maintained her house and car, insisted on her independence and was a force of nature to all who knew her,” from her obituary.

She was married to George Barnes Jr., who died at age 84 in 2008. He was heavily involved in the Knox County Republican Party, serving as chair of the 27th precinct. He was a former chair of the Metropolitan Planning Commission, a graduate of UT in engineering, and served as personnel director of Robertshaw Controls.

Family will receive friends Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. Family and friends will meet at Shiloh Cemetery, 118 Henderson Road, Pigeon Forge, for a 3 p.m. interment following the funeral service.
