Ernie Roberts is getting ready to air the 2021 season of Scholars’ Bowl on Community TV (Comcast Channel 12). The games were filmed in March and April and will be broadcast at 5:30 p.m. weekdays starting Monday, May 10, and running six weeks through mid-June.

Austin-East students will host an Anti-Violence Parade starting at 4:30 p.m. today (5/7). Only students will march, but supporters are encouraged to line the streets along Martin Luther King Avenue between the school and Dr. Walter Hardy Park.

50 new positions: Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs said Thursday that he has budgeted more than $3 million to fund 50 new positions to address students’ behavioral and mental health issues, at the request of Knox County Schools. “To be clear, these positions are meant to supplement and support the schools – not to replace security – as I believe a law enforcement presence inside schools is an absolute necessity.”

Sheriff Tom Spangler has said he will keep deputies in schools outside the city, while Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon, who formerly chaired the school board, has said she will pull KPD officers from schools at the end of May and will await a new agreement to be developed with community input.
