The entire Roddie Edmonds family, including descendants of soldiers saved by Roddie Edmonds, is in Washington, DC, for the posthumous presentation of the Medal of Honor, more than 40 years after his death.

Samuel Frazier Chapter awarded Pastor Chris Edmonds the NSDAR Medal of Honor for the discovery and preservation of his father’s undocumented military history while held prisoner by Germans during WWII. Since 2021, DAR chapter members have followed and supported Chris Edmonds’ efforts to honor his father’s legacy. Finally, he has been successful in his 13-year quest.

Edmonds was buried in Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery in 1985, taking his war experiences to his grave. He is now the second MOH Recipient buried there, joining Alexander “Sonny” Bonnyman, Jr., as a posthumously recognized East Tennessee military hero.
