Von E. Richardson, a political leader in Union County and East Tennessee for decades, has died at age 86 at his home in Maynardville. He served as sheriff from 1968-1974, then eight years as county judge, presiding over both juvenile and probate courts, and an additional four years as Union County executive.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime member of J. C. Baker Lodge #720 F. & A.M. His brother, the late Herbert E. “Smiley” Richardson, served as city commissioner and mayor of Maynardville.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today (12/8), at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Additional obituary information is here.
