The animals aren’t the only colorful characters greeting visitors at Zoo Knoxville this fall. A collection of whimsical pumpkin sculptures has been popping up around the zoo, bringing smiles, surprises and a little seasonal creativity to the grounds.

These aren’t ordinary jack-o’-lanterns. The imaginative displays transform pumpkins into playful animal figures, including a long-necked giraffe, a cheerful red panda and a wide-eyed bird with a personality all its own.

Each sculpture combines the familiar shapes and colors of pumpkins with recognizable animal features, creating photo opportunities for families exploring the zoo.

A pumpkin patch with personality

One of the most eye-catching creations is a towering giraffe constructed from stacked pumpkin shapes, complete with a long neck, spotted coloring and a friendly face.

Another sculpture features a red panda nestled among pumpkins, while a colorful bird with an oversized beak adds a touch of humor to the collection.

The decorations offer visitors another reason to slow down, look around and enjoy the creativity found throughout the zoo.

Celebrating 40 years of Halloween memories

The pumpkin animals are part of the seasonal atmosphere surrounding the 40th anniversary of Boo! at the Zoo, a longtime Knoxville Halloween tradition.

Zoo Knoxville has invited families to discover the new pumpkin characters while enjoying the sights and experiences that make a fall visit memorable.

Boo! at the Zoo is presented by Chick-fil-A Knoxville. Information about the celebration and tickets is available at zooknoxville.org/boo.

Whether visiting for the animals or the Halloween festivities, families might want to keep their cameras ready. Some of the zoo’s most entertaining creatures this fall are made entirely of pumpkins!
