Sandra ClarkObits, West Knoxville

Professor Donald Armour Clelland anchored the Sociology Department at the University of Tennessee during a 30-year teaching career that also included a stint at Wayne State University (Michigan). According to his obituary, he touched the lives of more than 6,000 undergraduates, as classroom teacher, adviser and as a faculty member whose door was open to them anytime he was on the 9th floor of McClung Tower. When he retired, the Sociology Department presented him with a plaque to recognize his “beyond the call of duty” service to chair 28 doctoral and master’s committees.

The family plans to organize an outdoor summer celebration of Professor Clelland’s life; please email wdunaway@vt.edu if you would like to be notified.
