Powell gets signs

Welcome to Powell signs were posted on Emory Road near Interstate 75 this week, thanks to efforts of the Powell Business & Professional Association, led by Kim Severance, and cooperation from Knox County Engineering & Public Works.

The signs were part of a state grant, matched by the PBPA, to install landscaping on four quadrants of the interchange with Emory Road. That work was completed this fall.

The project required state approval at multiple points, and Knox County assisted with implementation. At a PBPA meeting, Severance thanked Dwight Van de Vate and Jim Snowden of Knox County Engineering. She also acknowledged Lillian Williams, owner of Willow Bay Gallery, who wrote the initial grant.

The landscaping will be maintained by inmates from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, directed by Ivan Harmon and Scott Moore.
