KnoxTNToday History

KnoxTNToday.com exploded softly onto the Knoxville media scene in May 2017. Sandra Clark organized many contributors from her own brain child, Shopper-News, after she and they were terminated by Gannett as she describes it, “in its effort to produce local news by non-locals.”

Clark created a hybrid, a daily online website combined with a monthly newspaper. It grew to a well-known community read in Knoxville and surrounding communities. Fast forward to 2024 and Clark says, “the sight of a 75-year-old woman hauling newspapers in crates to area post offices made me ready to fold.”

Susan Espiritu, who is a former school principal had come on as main contributor with no other preconceived notions of how it ought to be done, said, “Let me try this.” And like the internet itself, expansive, creative and a bit scary, she took over. “First, we will get rid of these mailers,” she said, eliminating the security (and expense) of the familiar. She went all-in digital and has led without fear. And KnoxTNToday lives. Each day is an adventure; each edition a nod to our rich community.
