The West Hills Community Association will sponsor its annual Dogwood Celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at West Hills Park (Sheffield Drive entrance across from West Hills Elementary School).

Activities include live music, a chalk walk, artists and a kickoff for the 60th anniversary of West Hills celebration.

“We are grateful for our neighbors who have selflessly served our community over the past six decades,” said WHCA president Lee Hume.

“There will be a brief ceremony dedicating dogwood trees along the greenway to honor five outstanding West Hills volunteers who have faithfully served our community.”

The West Hills Dogwood Trail is one of the featured trails this year. Here’s the schedule for Saturday’s party:

8-9 a.m. – Pre-event set up

9 a.m. – Chalk Walk – Neighbors are encouraged to create their own chalk art on the greenway near the softball field and pickleball courts. Chalk will be provided.

10 a.m. – WHCA Spring Dogwood Ceremony. Five dogwood trees will be dedicated to honor the accomplishments of five volunteer leaders. Honorees are Chuck and Jane Anderton, Erika and Joe Fuhr, Betty and Charles Patton, Barbara and Reuben Pelot, and Sandy and Al Robinson. Also, winners of the April 1 kids coloring contest will be announced.

10:20 a.m. – Neighborhood artists are invited to showcase their art. All ages are welcome. Bring a table to display your wares and hopefully make a sale or two. Food trucks from Richy Kreme Donuts and Avocado Toast Truck will have items for sale. Jacob Clark will entertain with light acoustic music. Master gardeners including West Hills resident Michael Moore will be onsite to answer questions.

11 a.m. – Trail cleanup. Knoxville Parks & Recreation and Keep Knoxville Beautiful will spearhead the cleanup of the new Scott Cleland Trail. Join the city’s greenway ranger and ambassadors to help. Volunteers will meet on the greenway near the YMCA and tennis courts.

Parking is available at West Hills Elementary or the Y.

Event committee co-chairs are Jennifer Borth and Elizabeth Evola. Committee members are Hurley Thurston, Michael Moore, Christine Martens, Davina Morgenstern, John Heins, Ross Dempster, Cheryl Ely, Knoxville City Parks & Rec and Aoife Whitaker, greenways ranger.
