North, South pep rallies ahead

Food City/UT Pep Rally has three upcoming rallies, all from 3-6 p.m. on Fridays: Oct. 8, at the new Schaad Road Food City; Oct. 15, at 7608 Mountain Grove Dr. in South Knox County; and Nov. 12 at Powell. Members of the UT dance and cheer teams will be present, along with the UT mascot. Inflatables and refreshments will be provided and WIVK will be broadcasting live. UT-themed giveaways will take place every 30 minutes throughout the event, with a grand-prize drawing at 5:50 p.m.

Hiring event: At all Food City locations, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30. The company has 1,500 openings including entry-level positions and experienced, skilled positions, such as meat cutter, cake decorator and retail management, as well as various warehousing/distribution positions, including truck drivers. Interested candidates can apply online at FoodCity.com or visit any Food City store to complete an application.

Miss Food City 2022 Pageant: Each year, the annual Miss Food City Pageant showcases young women from across the region. This year’s pageant will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at The McGlothlin Center for the Arts at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia. The winner will represent the company during store grand openings and other special events, including the Food City 300 and Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Contestants are being sought throughout the region. The entry fee is $110. Applications are now available on-line here. Deadline for entry is 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Entrants will be limited to the first 20 applications received. Miss Food City will receive $3,000 cash, along with additional prizes, including a $1,200 scholarship from sponsor Rave Hairspray.

School Bucks Challenge: We’re giving away $700,000 to schools in the Food City communities, based on reward points. For every $1 you spend, using your Food City ValuCard, you’ll receive 1 point.
