Norris’s retirement brings new principal to Bonny Kate

Kimberly Harris

Kimberly Harris has been appointed principal of Bonny Kate Elementary School effective July 2022. Harris joined Knox County Schools in 2012 and taught at A.L. Lotts and Hardin Valley Elementary. In 2019, she was named assistant principal of Northshore Elementary, where she currently serves. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Carson Newman University. Principal Linda Norris is retiring after a career in public education.

Van Pelt is permanent at Mooreland Heights

Dr. Josh Van Pelt has been appointed principal of Mooreland Heights Elementary School effective July 2022. He joined Knox County Schools in 2009 as a teacher at Norwood Elementary School. In 2020, he was named assistant principal at Mooreland Heights, and in November 2021 he was appointed interim principal upon the death of principal Brandi Wilson Self.

Dr. Van Pelt previously worked at the Health Department in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and as a teacher’s assistant at an alternative learning center in Ohio. At Norwood Elementary, he served as a health and P.E. teacher, as well as a lead teacher.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a master’s degree in education, both from Mount Vernon Nazarene University; an educational specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University; and a doctorate in educational leadership from Carson Newman University.

Jamie Cantrill is staffing supervisor

Jamie Cantrill has been appointed elementary staffing supervisor effective July 2022. He has served as principal at Blue Grass Elementary for seven years after previous work as assistant principal at Karns High, Powell High and Blue Grass Elementary.
