New signs for Halls Crossroads

Folks who travel Maynardville Highway between Fountain City and Halls may have noticed a new community sign at the top of Black Oak Ridge. The sign was placed by the Halls Business and Professional Association, according to HBPA president Robert Hubbs, who announced it in the club’s last meeting.

Hubbs said board member Sue Walker of Tindell’s Inc. is heading the signage committee, and another board member, Darren Cardwell of Hallsdale Powell Utility District, installed the sign.

Hubbs said the HBPA is planning to place three more signs, but locations have yet to be determined. He said possibilities include the north end of Halls along Maynardville Highway and “somewhere on Emory Road.”

“How about right beside the ‘Welcome to Powell’ sign at the Emory Road exit beside Buddy’s BBQ,” quipped someone from the audience.

“Shots fired,” joked another.
