Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is now Mott-McKamey Funeral Home and Cremations in Oak Ridge.

New owners are Fabian and Lisa Mott, Madison McKamey, and Matthew and Shannon Mott. It’s a homecoming for Fabian Mott, who started work at Martin Funeral Home some 40 years ago. A native of Livingston, Tennessee, Mott worked for 30 additional years as a funeral director in Anderson County.

In an interview this week, Madison McKamey explained how the families came together to launch the new business.

“Fabian got me into the business,” he said. And Matthew Mott, son of Fabian and Lisa Mott, also owns Loudon Funeral Home. Matt, Madison and Fabian are licensed funeral directors. Madison and Matthew are embalmers as well.

And yes, the McKameys are kin to the famous gospel singers of the same name from Clinton. “Yes, our papaw Bud McKamey was a brother to Peg, Carol and the whole crew. They’re some of the best,”

Madison McKamey is a Clinton native who studied business management at Bryan College where he played basketball. He graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 2020.

Matthew Mott has been around the funeral industry his entire life. After serving four years in the U. S. Marine Corps, he went to John A. Gupton College where he received his license to be a funeral director and embalmer and started his career in 2013. He and wife Shannon have two children, Benny and Jett.

Lisa Mott, a non-licensed funeral assistant, was a young florist, Lisa Janney, when Fabian Mott came to Oak Ridge in 1982. They married. Lisa currently owns Mott’s Floral Design in Oak Ridge.

Other family members were recruited to help renovate the funeral home itself and to assist with funeral services. Madison’s dad, Ed, and brothers, Owen and Landon, are helping. Brandon McKamey, a cousin, is married to Margo Mott McKamey, Matthew’s sister.

Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home was founded in 1950 by Frank Martin and his nephew, Sam Martin. The Martin name was well-established with the first Martin FH in Lake City (now Rocky Top), Tennessee opened in 1926. It has recently been operated by an out-of-town owner who decided to retire and approached Fabian Mott, Madison McKamey said.

Mott-McKamey is located at 1017 Oak Ridge Turnpike, 1-865-483-4341, mottmckameyfh@gmail.com. The business is full-service, providing funeral home, burial and cremation services for Anderson County.
