Mosley heads Knox CTE; Bitner to Ridgedale

Matthew Mosley has been appointed director of CTE for Knox County Schools effective July 2022. He joined KCS in 2012 as a teacher at Fulton High School. He began his career as a web developer. At Fulton High, he taught web design and later served as a magnet facilitator. In 2017, he joined Karns High School’s Byington Solway CTE Center as a College and Career Coach and an administrator assistant. He became dean of students at Career Magnet Academy in 2018 and was later named assistant principal at South-Doyle High School. He is currently the principal of Career Magnet Academy. Mosley received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as a master’s degree and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership, both from Carson-Newman University.

Rebecca Bitner has been appointed principal of Ridgedale School. She replaced Kristi Phillips, who is now special education supervisor for Knox County Schools. Bitner joined KCS in 2002 through a yearlong internship with the University of Tennessee at South Doyle Middle School. She taught K-12 special education in Blount County Schools before returning to Knox County in 2012 as a TAP mentor teacher at South-Doyle Middle School. In 2013, she began serving middle and high schools as a special education facilitator. She is currently an assistant principal at South Doyle Middle School, where she has been serving since 2020. Bitner received a bachelor’s degree in language arts and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, both from the University of Tennessee, as well as an educational specialist degree in administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. She completed coursework through Florida Institute of Technology to become a board-certified behavior analyst.

  • Kimberly Harris from assistant principal at Northshore to principal at Bonny Kate
  • Laicee Hatfield, from principal of KCS secondary virtual schools to principal at Karns High School
  • Jennifer Hemmelgarn, an attorney, is now the interim assistant superintendent of business and talent.
  • Dr. Susan Hutton, from principal of Dare Elementary in Yorktown, North Carolina, to principal at Brickey-McCloud Elementary.
  • Kristen Jackson from assistant principal to principal at West Hills Elementary

  • Alicia Jones, from special education coordinator in Georgia to director of student success.
