If you have followed us for long, you know I like sunrise. Sunsets are great, but for me, sunrise is the best. To truly consider yourself a nature photographer, you need to plan on limited sleep.
Sunrise light develops more slowly and produces softer light, often with pastel tones. Morning atmosphere is generally calmer, and nighttime cooling can produce fog or light haze that can absorb colors.
This image was taken near the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. At about a mile high, I looked down on the layers retreating into the background, each becoming a little less distinct due to the atmosphere. The night sky being replaced by the soft pink is a promise of the coming sunrise and a new day.
Sunrise offers another advantage. Except at some iconic locations, you seldom have to share sunrise with anyone you did not invite.
