State Sen. Becky Duncan Massey and challenger Domonica Bryant are participating in a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 15, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave., Knoxville, and will be taking questions from the audience.

Parking is available at the venue. The forum will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of the League of Women Voters of Knoxville/ Knox County.

Sen. Massey is the only Republican (to my knowledge) who will engage with their Democratic challenger in a public forum. For most incumbents, the risk of misspeaking outweighs the personal political benefit. This attitude misses the point. The forum is about driving voter turnout by letting citizens hear contrasting views. Sometimes the arrogance of “public servants” is amazing.
