‘Man to Dinner’ coming to Powell

Sandra ClarkFeature, Powell

The Powell High School theater department is performing the comedy “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” under the direction of Jennifer Doubleday.

See what mayhem occurs when critic Sheridan Whiteside slips on the front steps of a provincial Ohio businessman’s home, breaks his hip, and he and his entourage take over the family home indefinitely.

The play was written in 1939 by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. A movie version was released in 1942 by Warner Bros. It starred the legendary Bette Davis as Maggie Cutler, Ann Sheridan as Lorraine Sheldon, Monty Woolley as Sheridan Whiteside and Jimmy Durante as Banjo.

The Powell student production will take place at the school this week, April 12-14, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the door for $6. Jared Dreier and David Ashley will alternate in the role of Sheridan Whiteside.
