Lynn Clapp built Broadway Sound

Sandra ClarkGibbs/Corryton, Obits

Lynn Clapp, well-known musician and business owner, died August 7, 2022, at Fairpark Health and Rehabilitation in Maryville, Tennessee. He was 81.

Mr. Clapp grew up in Corryton and started playing with garage bands during high school. He worked at WATE-TV before working at Hewgley’s Music Store and remained a weekend musician.

In 1967, he started his own business, Lynn’s Guitars, sharing space at Fisher’s Pianos on Cecil Avenue. As the business grew, he moved to the corner of Broadway and Edgewood in the old Sharp’s Drugs Store building. He later bought that building as well as the adjacent Edith’s Variety Store.

He changed the store name to Broadway Sound as business moved from instruments to professional audio installation. The business continues as daughter Amelia and Scott Hodges purchased it in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glendora Clapp, and their children. Full obituary information is here. Private graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Tazewell Pike at a future date.
