Longtime Carson-Newman professor, Hobbs, has died

The Rev. Charles Curtis Hobbs, 90, passed away June 20 in Marietta, Georgia, after a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of East Tennessee, making his home in New Market with his wife, the late Betty Lee King Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs served in the ministry for 60 years and on the faculty of Carson-Newman University for 25 years in the English Department. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman, the M.Div. degree from Louisville Baptist Theological Seminary, and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee.

Visitation is planned for 3-4 p.m. Sunday June 30, in the chapel of Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Obituary details are here.
