‘The Finest House in Tennessee’

Our newest idea of travel is to put Tennessee counties in a hat, pick one, research key places in that county, and spend a few day trips over overnights exploring. OOPS, we need to stay right here in Knox County a while in places we have missed.

Ramsey House

Ramsey House is my first treasure discovery for this week! Right in East Knox County on Thorn Grove Pike, it was once called the “finest house in Tennessee.”

If you are fascinated by quilts, you will be enthralled by the collection at the Ramsey House. The permanent collection is home to more than 50 historic quilts and other textiles dating from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s.

If you fall in love with one of the beautiful quilts like the Tulip Wreath or Compass Quilt, you can adopt them. No, you don’t take them home to water and feed, but your symbolic adoption through a monetary donation helps provide the special archival equipment needed for proper display of these delicate pieces.

The Ramsey House Quilt Collection is on display until March 31 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. daily. Don’t miss it! Info here.

Women’s History Month Tea at The Bottom, 2340 E Magnolia Ave. in Knoxville. It’s a bookstore and gathering place. Check it out.

We can’t guarantee these particular flowers will be blooming, but you can bet that something will. Knoxville Botanical Gardens Mimosa & Margarita Fest is Saturday, March 25, from 1-4 p.m. Info online.
