Lincoln Park loses friend, leader

Friends and former neighbors of Tilda Nancy Seals Wilhite are praising her as a community leader who brightened the lives of those around her. Mrs. Wilhite died April 3 in Greeneville at the home of her granddaughter. Services will be private.

Mrs. Wilhite, 92, was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wilhite; son, David Wilhite; and daughter, Pamela Strickland. On a social media site for residents of 37917, someone wrote: “Not sure anyone in this group will know her, but this lady was a ball of fire in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in the 1960s and ’70s. She could be found most days working at W.T. Grant Co. in the Broadway Shopping Center. It was impossible to be around her and not be happy and enthusiastic.”

Rose Clift recalled a church trip to Hawaii. “You could never be sad around Tilda.”

Stevens Mortuary served the family of Mrs. Wilhite. Details here.
