Knoxville-area high school athletes delivered strong performances from the volleyball court to the golf course during the Sept. 15-21 reporting week, with Hardin Valley Academy producing highlights in several sports and postseason golf getting underway.

Hardin Valley volleyball wins district showdown
Hardin Valley Academy earned a key District 4-AAA volleyball victory Sept. 15, defeating Maryville 3-1. The Lady Hawks took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-16, dropped the third 10-25 and closed the match with a 25-21 win.
The match even included an unexpected interruption when a fire alarm forced the gym to be evacuated before play began. HVA returned ready to play and followed the Maryville victory with a 3-0 win over Karns on Sept. 17.

Webb soccer posts two shutouts
Webb School of Knoxville put together a strong week in girls soccer with two shutout victories. The Lady Spartans defeated Girls Preparatory School 2-0 on Sept. 15, then traveled to Chattanooga and edged Baylor 1-0 on Sept. 19.

HVA soccer tops Maryville; Bearden answers
Hardin Valley Academy continued its winning ways in girls soccer Sept. 15 with a 3-1 district victory over Maryville. Three days later, Bearden defeated HVA 2-1 in another District 4-AAA matchup.

Farragut volleyball sweeps Karns
Farragut opened the reporting week with a 3-0 victory over Karns on Sept. 15. The Lady Admirals then ran into Maryville on Sept. 17 and fell 3-0.

District golf sends Knoxville teams forward
Postseason golf brought several Knoxville-area teams and individuals together Sept. 21 at the District 4-AA tournament at Gettysvue.
Hardin Valley Academy and Bearden each posted a 305 in the boys competition and advanced to the region tournament, along with Maryville. HVA’s Hunter Mousa and Bearden’s John Chapman each shot even-par 72. West’s Scott Dyer shot 74 to advance as an individual, while Farragut’s William Feehan advanced after a 73.
Farragut and Hardin Valley each totaled 147 in the girls competition and advanced along with West. HVA’s Addisyn Newman earned medalist honors with a 70. Farragut’s Sophia Williams also shot 70, and West’s Reese McMahan posted a 72.
Hardin Valley runners make mark in North Carolina
Hardin Valley’s cross country teams traveled to Cary, North Carolina, for the Adidas XC Challenge on Sept. 19 and came home with strong finishes against large fields.
Hardin Valley Academy placed sixth among 30 complete teams in the girls championship race. Senior Alexandra Vesser finished sixth individually among 241 runners, while junior Zarah Enbom placed 24th. Both earned medals.
The HVA boys placed eighth among 39 complete teams and 321 runners. Senior Stephen Bell finished 21st to earn a medal. The Hawks also had a top-10 JV boys finish, placing ninth.
Performance of the Week: Hardin Valley cross country
The KnoxTNToday Performance of the Week goes to Hardin Valley Academy cross country. Facing deep fields at the Adidas XC Challenge, both varsity teams finished in the top eight, and Vesser’s sixth-place individual finish led three HVA medal performances. The combination of team depth and individual success against hundreds of runners makes the Hawks this week’s choice.
