Angela Bell & Jearld Lucas at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
I am sharing the weekend trip my friend Jearld Lucas took to Washington, D.C.with daughter Angela Bell.
While the rest of the northeast was under blizzard warnings, my friends braved the chilly temperatures and a few flurries to see some of our nation’s iconic landmarks that embody its history and culture: the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, Union Station, and the Smithsonian Institution.
The U.S. Capitol stands as a symbol of democracy, housing the legislative chambers of Congress.
Nearby, the Library of Congress is the world’s largest library, with an extensive collection of books, recordings, and manuscripts, showcasing the richness of American literature and history.

Just a short distance away, Union Station serves as a bustling transportation hub and a beautiful architectural marvel, featuring stunning Beaux-Arts design, shops, and restaurants, making it a vibrant meeting point for travelers and locals alike.

The Smithsonian Institution, established in 1846, comprises 19 museums and research centers in Washington, D.C., dedicated to preserving America’s cultural, historical, and scientific heritage. Notable museums include the Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum.

Visiting Washington, D.C., during these cold months offers a unique charm that transforms the landmarks into a winter wonderland, as my friends experienced this past week.
