  • South-Doyle Middle School will get a $750,000 athletic field upgrade if Mayor Tim Burchett’s budget is adopted by Knox County Commission. A public meeting will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in the SDMS auditorium. The upgrade will include a BMX track that Burchett said will attract tourists. The track could open in fall 2018. The new fields would include restrooms, concessions and bleachers. The athletic track currently inside the stadium would stay.
  • Splash pads operated by Knox County Parks & Rec will open for the season Saturday, May 6, at Carl Cowan Park, New Harvest Park and Powell Station Park. Splash pads are water playgrounds for all ages. Use is free and hours, weather permitting, are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Sept. 10.
  • Farmers Market on Market Square will open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, with seasonal produce, honey, vegetables, eggs and more.
