  • Powell Station History Society will have a new meeting date in 2019. The group will meet from 7-8 p.m. each fourth Thursday at the Community Center on Emory Road. The next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 24. Visitors are invited.
  • Cliff Hawks, the leader of Cherokee Farm Development Corporation, has stepped down after six years as president and CEO. The corporation was formed to help develop The University of Tennessee Research Park at Cherokee Farm, which is leasing space and will build to suit.
  • East Tennessee 2-1-1 was introduced at a breakfast meeting of legislators and community leaders Jan. 17 at O’Connor Senior Center. The number serves as the first point of access to all community services. It’s part of a network of 2-1-1 services across the country.
