Veterans have given much in service to our country. This Friday, Knoxville residents have an opportunity to give something back through a few hours of community service.
Keep Knoxville Beautiful is partnering with Legacy Parks Foundation for a volunteer workday at French Broad Veterans Memorial Park on Friday, October 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, just ahead of Veterans Day.
The park, located at 2302 E. Governor John Sevier Highway, provides a peaceful setting overlooking the French Broad River and the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. It was created as a place where veterans, families and community members can gather to remember, reflect and honor military service.
The 8.5-acre property was donated to Legacy Parks in 2018 by Blue Water Industries. After years of planning, fundraising and community support, the park officially opened in May 2025.
Its features include a memorial wall honoring individual veterans, a flag courtyard recognizing all six military branches, an accessible memorial walk, a reflective garden and a gathering pavilion. An overlook provides panoramic views of the river and cemetery.
The park represents a community effort that continues today. In 2025, 108 native trees were planted through grants supporting community beautification and environmental stewardship.
Friday’s workday offers another opportunity for residents to help care for this meaningful public space.
