Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs has announced the start of a formal process that will result in the completion of a comprehensive update to the General Plan, which has formed the framework for the way Knox County has grown over the last 20 years.
Knox County will first hire a consultant to develop a “grand vision” for the county’s growth through 2045. Working with Knox Planning (formerly MPC), the consultant will conduct public meetings. That process is expected to take 18 months, according to a press statement.
Unlike previous General Plans, it will incorporate an analysis of the safety, capacity and multi-modal access of our transportation network, Jacobs said. The final plan will analyze population growth projections, land availability and infrastructure conditions to identify areas of Knox County that should be preserved and areas that are appropriate for new growth and investment.
