Johnson set to make Senate run

Sandra ClarkLet's Talk

State Rep. Gloria Johnson (D-Knox) will make three stops today to launch a campaign for the U.S. Senate. First stop is Knoxville, specifically 9 a.m. at Savage Garden on Garden Drive in Fountain City. It’s right up the street from Central High School where Johnson worked as a special education teacher

Johnson is expected to announce her candidacy against U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn in 2024 after weeks of cat-and-mouse consideration. Johnson must first get the nomination. Marquita Bradshaw of Memphis is an announced candidate. Bradshaw was the Democratic nominee in 2020 against Sen. Bill Hagerty.

Political things I don’t like: coyness; rallies in places with no parking; anything at 9 a.m.

Political things I like: Gloria Johnson.

I’ll update this after the event.
