Jeff Hash retires from HVA with unusual celebration

My daughters organized a surprise retirement party for me at their neighborhood clubhouse that included lots of fantastic food, little of it healthy, but all of it tasty! Had they organized a 5K run/ walk as part of the event, I am not even sure I would have attended.

Trophy and medals for the 5K Hash Dash

Not so, for the over 40 Hardin Valley Academy staff who turned out to send Jeff Hash, their physical education/ health and wellness teacher, into retirement by running or walking a 5K. There is a reason they would do such a thing. Hash’s classes trained each semester to either run or walk a 5K and had to do so in order to pass their final exam. So, as Jeff’s “final” send off into retirement from Hardin Valley Academy, the staff invited everyone to a 5K Hash Dash as the “2023 Retirement Celebration” of Jeff Hash.

Jeff ran into retirement carrying the American flag that he had during Operation Desert Storm where he served in the army. His mom, dad and sister, Tracy, surprised Jeff by coming and being the cheering squad. There was a trophy for the winner which of course Jeff won, and medals were given out to participants with water and snacks!

Maybe they should be renamed the “Hardy” Valley Academy! What a great memory for a well loved and respected teacher and friend and his family.
