Iris Eyes

Spring is here and things are about to get blooming crazy!

My grandmother would pore over seed catalogs all winter in anticipation of additions to her flower garden. Sweet William, ranunculus, peonies, but irises were the star of her garden. Such sweet, fragrant memories have I of her guided tours as we watered the beds. It is a hard-wired sensory connection synonymous with her home that I’m fortunate to revisit every spring.

Painting in the dew of a friend’s iris bed, I got down low to capture this image, Iris Eyes. Then I got the low down on my selection. This rhizome, named Space Ager, has been to outer space and back for scientific observation. She grows a bit differently with the beard protruding from the fall of the flower but is still such a beauty.

Granny would not approve of her traipsing about, but would like the results.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
