Inspiration calls

“If you are over 40, you may understand the title of this image,” says Chris Rohwer. “If not, Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce is the name of surgeon ‘Hawkeye’ on the long-running TV show ‘M*A*S*H.’ This red tail hawk’s real name is Zena, and she is totally blind and a permanent resident of Smoky Mountain Raptor Center in Townsend.

“Study the detail of the eye, the fine feathers and note the rabbit hair on her beak. This was shot with a long telephoto lens at close range to allow for the fine detail and blurred background. I hope you enjoy this image.”

KnoxTNToday is beginning a partnership with the artistic team of Chris and Robin Rohwer, who share a small studio and gallery in the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville where you can stop and see their work. I’ve known them awhile and am constantly impressed with their creations.

For Robin Rohwer, painting is capturing a moment or a feeling in time and place. An image speaks to her and needs to be painted, and that is her inspiration. Photography gives Chris Rohwer another reason to be outside. Capturing light, lines and subjects to make a more interesting composition makes carrying a camera fun and challenging.

Chris and Robin Rohwer enjoy sharing their artwork. Each week they will strive to share an interesting painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They welcome you to visit their studio. It is best to check ahead to see when they will be there, as they may be off looking for more inspiration.
