Help Tate’s ‘Grow the Grove’

Sandra ClarkWest Knox County

Tate’s School families are working to restore campus trees that were destroyed by a category 2 tornado that hit the 54-acre campus on August 7, 2023. Over 100 trees were downed, one building was destroyed and eight buildings had severe damage.

Parents and students have raised approximately $3,000 for “Grow the Grove,” and each grade level will celebrate their teachers by planting a tree on Arbor Day, Friday, April 26. Students will watch the excavator place the first tree and then will shovel dirt to secure it. Fourteen elm and maple trees will be planted.

Tate’s parents and administration will host a chef-prepared luncheon for teachers from 1-2 p.m. on Friday.

If you would like to donate a tree, visit the Tate’s website.

WVLT posted a drone video that shows some of the damage in the Aug. 7 tornado.

WATE mapped the tornado’s path through Knox County.
