Grace Christian Academy’s Choir Program returned from the WorldStrides Performing Arts Heritage Festival in San Diego with outstanding achievements: all three groups earned Gold Superior ratings, the highest distinction awarded at the festival. In addition, GCA received the prestigious Spirit of San Diego Award, recognizing not only musical excellence but also character, attitude, and representation throughout the event.

Under the direction of Melissa Porier, MS/HS Vocal & Worship Arts Director and Fine Arts Department Chair, GCA’s Choral Ensemble, Men’s Choir, and Women Singers each delivered exceptional performances on a national stage.

Final composite scores reflected the high level of performance across the board:
• Choral Ensemble – 94
• Women Singers – 94
• Men’s Choir – 93

Beyond the awards, the trip was filled with meaningful, once-in-a-lifetime moments that left a lasting impact on both students and leaders.

While visiting the USS Midway, students were unexpectedly invited by veterans to sing the National Anthem, creating a powerful and emotional moment of honor and gratitude.

Another highlight came at Shadow Mountain Community Church, where the group was asked to perform “My Soul’s Been Anchored” for Dr. David Jeremiah. Without preparation, sheet music, or even a warm-up, students stepped forward in faith and delivered a moving performance.

Director Melissa Porier reflected on the experience, sharing, “God has blessed in so many ways. These moments were unforgettable, and I am so proud of how our students stepped up and used their gifts.”

From national recognition to spontaneous opportunities to minister through music, this trip was a powerful example of students using their gifts to glorify God on and off the stage.

Grace Christian Academy offers an academically challenging and distinctly Christian education for students in PreK-12th grade, featuring a diverse range of arts and athletics programs for each season.
