In this demonstration, I’ll show you where to find WordroW, how to enter guesses, what the colored circles mean and how the game progresses from four-letter to six-letter words.
Getting started
Step 1: Find the game. Visit KnoxTNToday.com, select 865 Puzzles from the navigation menu between Columns and Obituaries, and choose Word Row.
Step 2: Look at the empty circles. They tell you how many letters are in the word you’re trying to guess. Begin by entering a word with the required number of letters.
Step 3: Submit your guess. Use the on-screen keyboard or your computer keyboard to type your word, then submit it. The game will display colored clues to help you.
Step 4: Understand the colors.
- Green: The letter is in the hidden word and in the correct position.
- Yellow: The letter belongs in the word but is in a different position.
- Gray: The letter is not in the word, subject to how the game handles repeated letters.
For example, suppose you’re trying to guess a five-letter word and enter TRAIN. If the T turns green, you know the hidden word begins with T. If the A turns yellow, you know A belongs somewhere else in the word.
Step 5: Use what you’ve learned. Your next guess should keep the confirmed letters in place and try new combinations for the remaining positions. Each guess gives you more information.
Step 6: Keep challenging yourself. WordroW progresses through different word lengths, from four letters to six letters. As the words become longer, you’ll have more letters to consider.
A few tips for beginners
Start with familiar words containing common vowels and consonants. Pay attention to the green and yellow clues, and don’t waste guesses repeating letters you’ve already ruled out without a reason.
There’s no need to rush. The fun comes from figuring out the word one clue at a time.
You can also return to the 865 Puzzles menu to try Mini Crossword, Large Crossword, Word Search or Sudoku at three difficulty levels.
