Gary Cafego dies at 74

Gary Cafego, 74, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., son of the late George and Maxine Cafego, was buried Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery in Donelson after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gary was a graduate of Young High School and the University of Tennessee. His father was a Tennessee all-American and an assistant coach of the Volunteers.

Gary is survived by Patsy Taylor Cafego, his wife of 44 years, and daughters Nancy Cafego Greene and Emily Cafego Midgett. Gary’s sister, Rosella Cafego Fox, still lives in Knoxville.

After high school, Gary had a short stay in professional baseball as a catcher in the Minnesota Twins farm system. At the university, he earned a degree in logistics. He had a 37-year career with Bowater.
