Tennessee’s 26-10 victory over Alabama gave Volunteers fans plenty to celebrate Saturday — and one KnoxTNToday reader another reason to cheer.

Don Grogan is this week’s Game Ball winner after predicting Tennessee 24, Alabama 14. His prediction missed the final score by just six combined points, the closest of the entries reviewed. Grogan wins a Dinner for Two at Aubrey’s.

The Vols’ 16-point victory also gave the readers another win in the Beat the Writers challenge. None of the nine KnoxTNToday writers came as close as Grogan.

Beat the Writers

Maria Cornelius led the writers with a prediction of Tennessee 24, Alabama 17, missing by nine combined points. Thomas Mabry was next, predicting Tennessee 23, Alabama 18, 11 points off. Charlie Barnett and Linda Sullivan were each 12 points off.

The writers were split before kickoff: Marvin West and Jan Dickens picked Alabama, while seven others chose Tennessee. The Vols proved the optimists right — and delivered a bigger margin of victory than any of the writers forecast.

Beat the Writers standings: Readers 6, Writers 0.
