Fragrant bloom has returned for fall

Quintessentially southern.

Large glossy leaves and giant flowers with an unmistakable fragrance tell you it’s a southern magnolia. Painted on location at Knoxville Botanical Gardens, a beautiful big space full of mature plants is a nice place for a quiet walk. This day I had a magnolia on my heart and found the perfect bloom! While working, the bloom unexpectedly closed as the day warmed. I’m surprised to see they are still blooming or re-blooming in October, high atop 60-foot trees.

When looking at the work, I can feel the golden warmth of the day and smell the lemony scent, can you? Breathe in the crisp fragrance of the magnolia and you will know you are home.
