First Friday is for celebrating local artists

Get an artistic jump-off to Labor Day weekend with First Friday events downtown and in the Old City. The Emporium Arts Center invites the public to the opening reception of its new exhibits, including “Chroma” featuring local artists Diana Ferguson and Kit Hoefer. Come celebrate regional artists, enjoy the new exhibitions, live music and artist demos on September 3, from 5-9 p.m. at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, 37902. Masks are required. Knoxville Opera continues presenting its free First Friday concerts outside the Emporium Center from 6-7:20 p.m. The program, performed by soprano Christine Alfano and baritone Joel Brown, will include popular selections from Broadway, opera, operetta and Disney movies.  Knoxville Opera Artistic Director Brian Salesky will host and accompany the artists.
