First Friday brings art, music, art

First Friday is a great time to visit downtown Knoxville. There’s a lot going on.

The Arts & Culture Alliance at The Emporium, 100 S. Gay Street, will be open from 5-9 p.m. on June 2 with several new exhibits and music by Ben McLaughlin.

Artists include Diana Ferguson (DiFergi) from Sweetwater, Tennessee, whose exhibit is called Behold the Night. She says, “Reality has very little to do with the intention of my final image.”

See the work of other exhibitors here:

  • Chaos & Void by Vincent Drake + Greg Schweiger
  • Arboretum Obscura by Barbara Bolton Cornett
  • The Hardin Valley Project by Emily Greenquist
  • Daughter Land by Summer Small
  • Our Earth in Color by Deb Mazz Cikovic

Free live music by Ben McLaughlin begins at 6 p.m. Deep in the Appalachian Mountains, “Ben McLaughlin” creates folk music that sounds like an electrified awakening. “Ben McLaughlin” is from the same place that you are from. Walking the delicate line between being Nobody and being God, with sound as the medium, this human channels music through the pursuit of dissecting emotions and trauma.

Suzanne Cada is deputy director of the Arts & Culture Alliance
