Two Knoxville legislators have been honored with the “Champion of Children Award” by the Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee. PCAT praised the lawmakers for helping to secure additional funding for evidence-based home visiting in Tennessee.
Sen. Becky Massey, who chairs the Senate Transportation and Safety committee, and Rep. Bill Dunn, House Speaker Pro Tempore, accepted the awards from Jim Henry, a former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. Henry is a past recipient of the award.
Massey will announce her candidacy for re-election at a family-friendly party from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Lakeshore Park, 5930 Lyons View Pike. Dunn has announced that he will not seek re-election to the House of Representatives.
PCAT is a non-profit that works with parents, professionals and communities to provide education, resources and services that strengthen families. The organization is the largest provider of evidence-based home visiting in Tennessee and has been serving families for 35 years.
