Daring to try

Today marks my first personal blog entry. It’s rambling random thoughts, so readers beware. I’m going to try to post it weekly. We’ll see how that goes.

Since May 2017, knoxtntoday.com has published daily (M-F). And I’ve had what I’ve always wanted – a daily news outlet, free to all – a chance to compete with folks with lots more resources.

Harry Reasoner said: “Having chosen something worth doing, never give up and try not to let anyone down.”

We launched KTT with feet firmly planted in two worlds: digital and direct mail. Obviously, the future is electronic. That’s how many of us receive news today and how most will get it tomorrow. The business model for KTT is digital news supported by a targeted mailer.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll tear into our model to:

  • Clarify my thinking
  • Inspire readers to dare to choose something worth doing, and
  • Document how a person who never quite “got” the VCR launched a website.
Notes

Bailey & Co. Justin Bailey opened his second real estate office last week, at 410 Montbrook, Ste. 104. Have never seen so many smiling people and such high energy at a business opening. Justin is the real deal.

Jake Mabe and I caught lunch at Aubrey’s on Saturday. And then we did what all old reporters do (don’t they?). We drove Maynardville Pike to document the sidewalk gaps on either side from Halls to Fountain City.

Keel Hunt, another old reporter, has started a blog. If you like newspapering and politics from a Nashville perspective, check it out.
