Crazy from the heat

Christopher RobinDowntown, Our Town Arts

It’s been a few hot days of summer of late. Heat advisories, weather warnings with suggestions to keep kids and pets off hot pavement and well hydrated are touted across the media. Heed the warnings!

It was a hot day in Florida when I painted this last month. Lucky to have a friend with a tent is how this piece came to be. The inspiration was there with the bright light dancing off the cool tones of the exotic (to me) palm, with a small patch of shade dancing on the sand. There is probably some sand in the mix as well. I could not have done it by myself. Having the laughter of friends helped me tolerate the heat as two of us turned our back to the ocean to paint this rag tag tree.A half mile trek back to the hot car on lava-like Trex decking was followed by about a gallon of iced tea, much needed to ease the paint pain. Who says this isn’t work?

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours.
