Concord historian remembered

Sandra ClarkFarragut, Obits

Spencer Stockell Harris, 75, of Shafter, California, passed peacefully on August 13, 2023, at his home with his wife, Tammy Harris, by his side.

Readers of Knox TN Today will remember Spencer’s research into his Concord, Tennessee, ancestors. We identified him this way: Spencer S. Harris lives on an almond ranch in the Central Valley of California. He is a native of Chattanooga, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and a lifelong Volunteer. He is related to the Smith and Boring families of early Concord and has written two previous articles for Knox TN Today.

Spencer was a joy to work with and he shared fantastic tales – like the crippled mule who survived the Civil War (neither side wanted it) and was memorialized with a road name in Fox Den subdivision. In December 2022, he wrote Laughing all the way about the Boring family’s one horse open sleigh.

According to his obituary, his daughter and son-in-law, Carrera  and William Romanini, live in Knoxville, as does his grandson, Wesley. His full obituary is here.

There will be a celebration of life in both California and Knoxville.
