Mary Evelyn Rogers Sexton, 74, of Powell, Tennessee, passed away on November 16, 2024. She was a worthy partner to the Rev. Dr. Clarence Sexton, pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Powell, married for 56 years and co-founder with him of The Crown College in Powell.

Evelyn was born in Maryville, Tennessee. After the death of her father when she was just 5-years-old, Evelyn and her older brother, Charles, were raised by their mother, Lucille Rogers Caughron. Evelyn met her future husband while attending Everett High School, and they were married on February 15, 1967.

The Sextons served together in three Tennessee churches: Greenback, Lenoir City and Chattanooga and later in Paterson, New Jersey. They returned to East Tennessee in 1988 when Clarence accepted the pastorate of Temple Baptist Church.
