Feeling helpless to make a positive turnaround in the ongoing climate crisis? Wondering why lives and livelihoods have to be jeopardized by extreme, climate-related conditions? A community-based organization extending around the globe is not giving up on the power to do something about it. It advocates for better policies and proposes practical solutions.
The Climate Reality Project, now 20 years mature, is hosting another round of what it calls Flagship US Training this spring in Nashville. It features founder and former Vice President Al Gore, as well as physician and former US Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee. Professor Michael Mann of Penn Center for Science and Sustainability and the Media is also a keynote speaker.
Climate Reality’s Vision Statement is:
“Today, Climate Reality is a diverse group of passionate individuals who’ve come together to tackle the greatest challenge of our time. We are advocates, cultural leaders, organizers, scientists, and storytellers from around the world, committed to building a sustainable future together. Our shared vision is for a swift, systemic, and just transition toward net zero emissions by the middle of this century, with major steps toward that goal by 2030.”
The training event is in-person only, and you must apply for one of a limited number of seats, providing your own travel and lodging. While the organization still holds events at other places around the nation and the world, this Nashville event is the closest for Tennesseans to attend this year. If selected, there is no fee to attend, though you are responsible for some meals and related costs to get there.
Climate Reality’s website states that in order to become a certified Climate Reality Leader, mandatory attendance includes two full days of training. Learn more about the early May event and how to apply for a spot here.
