Candidate forum is Tuesday

The local League of Women Voters and others are sponsoring a forum for school board candidates from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center, 124 S. Cruze St. Parking is available adjacent to the center, on the street or in the parking lot of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2137 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. All candidates have been invited.

Early voting is underway through April 28, and election day is May 3, 2022.

Candidates for the Knox County Board of Education are:

District 1

  • John Butler (D)
  • Charles Frazier (D)
  • Breyauna Holloway (I)
  • Reginald Jackson (I)

District 4

  • Will Edwards (R)
  • Katherine Bike (D)

District 6

  • Betsy Henderson (R)
  • Philip Michael Sherman (I)

District 7

  • Sherry Garrett (R)
  • Steve Triplett (R)
  • Dominique Oakley (I)

District 9

  • Phil King (R)
  • Kristi Kristy (R)
  • Annabel Henley (D)

Note: This is the first election for school board candidates to run for party nominations. Therefore, May 3 is an elimination election. Moving on to August will be one Republican, one Democrat and all Independents from each district.
