Buchanan relaxes business regs

Sandra ClarkKnox Notes

Martha Buchanan, MD, has relaxed Covid-19 requirements for local businesses, issuing on April 23 “recommendations for all businesses operating in Knox County.” See the full order: Resolution 2021-A business guidance

Meanwhile, the Knox County Board of Health, now functioning in an advisory role to Buchanan, met April 21 via ZOOM to look ahead. As advisors, how should members conduct business? A consensus formed for no formal votes, no public forum and once-a-month meetings on each third Wednesday: 5 p.m. for ZOOM meetings or 5:30 p.m. for in-person meetings.

The Board of Health has emerged from its death struggle with Knox County Commission bloody but unbowed. We can only hope for a similar outcome for the rest of us.

The 2022 GOP Primary race for sheriff will be foreshadowed today when Knox County Commission meets at 5 p.m. to select a member and alternate to the three-person Sheriff’s Office Merit System Council. Former Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones has continued to control the council, and Sheriff Tom Spangler is looking for one friendly vote. Will he get it? We’ll have the report on KnoxTNToday.com
