Birthdays have a way of changing as we grow older. Childhood celebrations may revolve around balloons, cake, and presents, while adulthood often brings quieter observances. But reaching another birthday never stops being worth celebrating.
The celebration does not have to be elaborate. Sometimes a birthday cake, a favorite song, a card or simply hearing someone say, “We’re glad you’re here,” can make the day memorable. And there is certainly no age limit on music, laughter — or a clown.
That was the case recently when Corryton Baptist Church brought a birthday celebration to Beverly Park Place.
Church members arrived ready to make the occasion festive, complete with banjo pickers, Gabby the Clown, and plenty of fun for residents.
The gathering was a reminder that celebrating birthdays is not something we outgrow. If anything, those celebrations can become even more meaningful with the passing years.
Corryton Baptist Church’s visit did more than provide entertainment. By taking the time to celebrate with the residents, church members delivered a simple but important message: Your birthday matters because you matter.
That is something worth remembering whether there are eight candles on the cake or 88.
