Now that Thanksgiving is past, we’ll get back to work Monday to finish Knox County’s next park – the Angora Frog Farm on land donated by Arvin and Sabra Brown. The entrance is behind the Browns’ home on Brickyard Road, and the land lies between the Brown property and Crown College east-to-west and between Powell Drive and Beaver Creek Drive north-to-south.

We’re scheduling a work day to clear sites for the play structures. More on this next week.

Meanwhile, if you’ve never tried ice skating on Market Square, give it a whirl. It’s fun and a good workout. And we’ve pulled out 10 more activities from our Outdoor Knoxville calendar:

Downtown Fun Run: 6:30 p.m., Pour Taproom. Free. Info: 865 Running. Join us every Friday for a 3-mile social run through downtown, World’s Fair Park and the river walk. Afterwards drinks with 10% off. All levels.

Saturday, December 2

SlowKno Saturday Trail Run: 8 a.m., Meads Quarry. Free. Info: Slowkno Running Club. Check Facebook for updates.

AMBC Work Party: 9-noon, Sharps Ridge. Free. Info: Appalachian Mountain Bike Club. We’ll provide tools – bring water, gloves and safety glasses. Lunch served at noon with drinks and beers. Details online.

Women’s Saturday Ride: 10:30 a.m., Suttree Landing Park. Free. Info: Spokeswomen. We’ll ride through downtown Knoxville to Marine Park and back via the Neyland and Knox/Blount Greenways. Updates posted on Facebook.

Knox Bike Ride: 11 a.m., Printshop Beer. Free. Info: Printshop Beer at 865-474-9591. Slow neighborhood rides to explore our city via bike. Distances and routes vary, (6-10 miles) and may include stops at various landmarks, sites of interest and even other breweries. Cancelled in inclement weather. Details online.

Sunday, December 3

Dirty South Half Marathon & 10K Trail Race: 9 a.m., Meads Quarry. Info: Knoxville Track Club. 13.1-mile course traverses the Forks of the River Wildlife Area, William Hastie Park, Marie Myers Park, Ross Marble Quarry, Ijams Nature Center and other haunts of the Urban Wilderness. Kids run starts at 8:30 a.m. Register online.

Reindeer Run: 2 p.m., Maryville Greenbelt Amphitheatre. Info: Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks & Recreation at 865-983-9244. Join us for a 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Walk starts at 2:45 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Empty Pantry Fund. Register online.
